From sacred mountain sunrises to golden beach sunsets, OCEAN FEVER’s Surf Tour of Sri Lanka blends the thrill of surf with the wonder of one of Asia’s most diverse and enchanting destinations. This isn’t just a surf trip, it’s an adventure that takes you deep into the island’s cultural soul, wild landscapes, and coastal lifestyle, finishing with four full days of surfing in laid-back Hikkaduwa. Designed for the traveller who wants more than just waves, this journey will leave you with stories, connections, and memories that stretch far beyond the shoreline.
Your adventure kicks off in Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle. On Day 2, you’ll hike Pidurangala Rock at dawn for panoramic views over the iconic Lion Rock fortress, followed by a bicycle tour through the ancient ruins of Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka’s medieval capital. On Day 3, marvel at the richly painted Golden Rock Cave Temple in Dambulla, one of Asia’s most extraordinary Buddhist sanctuaries. These early days connect you with the island’s deep spiritual history and ancient artistry, all guided by a knowledgeable local expert.
The next leg of your journey takes you into Sri Lanka’s stunning central highlands. On Day 4, you’ll lace up for a hike along Stage 1 of the Pekoe Trail, trekking through lush tea fields, remote villages, and misty eucalyptus groves. Then, on Day 5, board the legendary train from Nanu Oya to Ella, arguably one of the world’s most beautiful rail journeys. Glide past jungle valleys and rolling tea plantations before visiting the iconic Nine Arch Bridge, a masterpiece of colonial engineering nestled in the hills.
From the highlands, the adventure flows into the wild. Day 6 brings a visit to Upper Diyaluma Falls, where you’ll hike to the top and swim in natural rock pools overlooking breathtaking views. En route to Udawalawe, stop at the Elephant Transit Home, where orphaned baby elephants are cared for before being released back into the wild. On Day 7, rise early for a thrilling safari in Udawalawe National Park, spotting elephants, deer, jackals, and birds across the open savannah. The wild continues on Day 8 with a dawn jeep safari in Yala National Park, home to leopards, crocodiles, and sloth bears. Then, it’s time for a cultural stop at the atmospheric Galle Fort, a colonial gem filled with charm, before arriving in Hikkaduwa for the coastal chapter of your journey.
From Day 9 to 12, it’s all about surf, sun, and sea. Hikkaduwa is one of Sri Lanka’s most beloved surf towns, offering warm tropical waters, consistent swell, and a mix of beach and reef breaks suited to beginner and intermediate surfers. Your surf gear is included, and you’ll have the freedom to paddle out at your own pace each day. Mornings and late afternoons bring glassy waves and easy rides, while the afternoons invite rest, exploring the town, or grabbing a fresh coconut at one of the beachfront cafés.
On Day 13, enjoy one final surf session before diving into a true cultural highlight, a Sri Lankan culinary experience hosted by a local family. Learn how to crack, scrape, and prepare your own coconut, master fragrant spices, and cook a variety of traditional dishes. As the feast unfolds, you’ll eat local-style, by hand, off a lotus leaf, an authentic and delicious way to celebrate your journey.
Finally, on Day 14, you’ll transfer back to Colombo Airport with your mind full of memories, from ancient ruins and misty mountains to wild safaris and the rush of warm Indian Ocean waves beneath your board.
This is OCEAN FEVER’s Sri Lanka Surf Tour, an epic fusion of surf, culture, and nature designed for those who want more than a holiday. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime adventure through a country that stirs the soul and leaves the spirit forever changed. Please note that this surf tour is not for learning to surf, you must already be a surfer.
